What you're paying for

Regrout + resilicon scope, written out.

Two related but separate jobs. We usually do both in the same visit — here's what each one is.

What we do
In scope
  • Old grout removal — oscillating tool, manual scraper, full depth out
  • Mould inspection — check substrate; treat if mould has gone past grout line
  • Joint clean + dry — no new grout goes on a wet or dirty joint
  • New grout application — colour-matched (or chosen from sample card)
  • Excess grout haze removal — clean tile face, sharp grout lines
  • Old silicone strip — counter joints, shower screens, basin edges, toilet base
  • Surface degrease + dry — substrate must be clean for silicone to bond
  • New silicone bead — sanitary anti-mould grade, smooth tooled finish
  • Cure protection — don't-use signs, masking where needed
  • Equipment + materials — tools, grout, silicone, all included
What's NOT included
Quote separately
  • Tile replacement (cracked tiles, lifted tiles)
  • Waterproofing membrane rectification (sub-floor damp issues)
  • Plumbing fixture replacement
  • Full bathroom or kitchen renovation
How a regrout + resilicon job runs

Out, clean, dry, in.

Fast-tracking either step is how you get failed grout in six months and black mould inside silicone in three.

Old material removed

Oscillating tool + manual scraper for grout. Blade + solvent for silicone. Full depth out, not surface scrape.

Inspect + treat substrate

Check if mould has gone past the grout line into the substrate. If yes, treat first (anti-fungal) and let it dry before new material goes on.

Clean + dry the joint

Wet joint = failed bond. We clean and dry before applying new grout or silicone. This is the step contractors skip when rushing.

Apply + tool + cure

Grout pressed into joint, excess wiped, haze cleared. Silicone bead laid, tooled smooth. Don't-use signs while it cures (24 hours).

Where mould wins

Three zones we reset to watertight.

Old grout and old silicone are porous and chipped. They hold water and grow mould. Strip and replace is the only real fix.

Tile regrouting work
Zone 01

Bathroom + kitchen tile.

Black-lined grout means it's been holding water for months. We dig it out full-depth and re-apply colour-matched grout. New, watertight, mould-resistant.

Silicone counter joint
Zone 02

Counter + basin joints.

The strip where the countertop meets the wall. Constant water. Old silicone peels and yellows — we cut it out and lay a clean new bead.

Shower screen silicone reseal
Zone 03

Shower screen edges.

Around the screen frame, base of the shower, around the tray. Sanitary-grade silicone goes back — not standard caulk.

When you need it
How do I know if I need regrouting or a full re-tile?
If your tile is intact, lying flat, and only the grout is stained or cracked — regrouting is the fix. If tiles are lifting, cracking, or you have water damage in the substrate, you need a contractor to re-tile. We'll tell you straight at quote — we don't push regrout onto a job that needs full re-tile.
How often does silicone need replacing?
Sanitary silicone in wet areas lasts 3–5 years before yellowing, peeling, or growing mould inside the bead. Counter joints last 5–7 years. Once you see black inside the silicone, the mould is past the bead surface — replace, don't bleach.
Can you remove black mould inside the silicone?
No. Once mould is inside the silicone bead, surface cleaning doesn't reach it. The only fix is strip and reseal. We use sanitary anti-mould silicone for the replacement so it lasts longer next time.
Logistics
How long does it take?
Single bathroom resilicon: half day. Single bathroom regrout: full day. Both: 1–1.5 days. Kitchen counter resilicon: 2–3 hours.
How long until I can use the bathroom or kitchen?
24 hours for silicone to cure fully (water-safe). Grout: 24–48 hours before water exposure, 7 days before scrubbing. Don't-use signs left in place while it cures.
Can you colour-match the existing grout?
Yes — from a sample card. Or pick a different colour. White, grey, and beige are the common picks. Black is high-contrast and shows water stains less.
